SANYO Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has developed the Rail to Rail CMOS Dual Op Amp which contributes to the reduction of power consumption of electronic equipment. Sample shipments are expected to begin in March 2010.

Current consumption of the new Op Amp is 80 nA, the lowest in the industry. It enables low voltage operation of 1.8V to 5.5V and realizes low input bias current of 1pA by making use of the characteristics of CMOS process. Energy saving electronic devices and significant extension of battery life of battery driven products can be realized by facilitating the low power consumption design. This amplifier is ideal for all kinds of electronic devices that require low power consumption, especially for devices using optical sensors or vibration sensors or alarms.

*1: As of January 18, 2010
*2: Current consumption per circuit
*3: "Rail to Rail" is "to be usable in wide operating range to power supply voltage for both input and output".

Product Main Features

  1. Industry's lowest*1 current consumption 80 nA*2 contributes to energy

    saving of devices

Op Amp of ultra low current consumption of 80 nA has been realized by improving current limit circuit and amplifier circuit, adopting a manufacturing process optimized for CMOS analog products and increasing the accuracy of transistor characteristics. Compared to products with the lowest current consumption (330nA) in the present Op Amp market, the battery life of the new product is four times longer, thereby significantly improving the maintenance performance and user-friendliness of various electronic devices such as smoke/gas detectors and security products that require continuous current supply to sensors.
  2. Wide range of operation (1.8V to 5.5V) and input/output rail to rail operation

Since the new product can operate at 1.8V, low power consumption circuit can easily be designed for mobile devices and various sensors. Furthermore, by adopting rail to rail circuit, full swing input/output from ground to power supply voltage has been realized. Small voltage range of input/output signal may increase the number of external parts. This product, on the other hand, can operate in full swing input/output signal voltage range and therefore allows simple and flexible design of application circuit.
  3. Low input bias current of 1pA

Since input bias current of 1pA has been achieved by taking advantages of CMOS process, peripheral circuit can be designed without concern for the bias current. For the applications detecting small input signals from acceleration, vibration and optical sensors, bias current value largely affects the detection accuracy. This product has solved this problem and realized both signal detection accuracy improvement and low power consumption.
